The FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships provide an invaluable platform for aspiring beach volleyball players to gain tournament experience and test themselves against their age group.
Universality is one of the FIVB’s core values; we are committed to spreading the sport around the world and it is rewarding to see young athletes who have been inspired to take up beach volleyball competing together.
This is the only FIVB tournament to take place in Cyprus in 2016 but the country has plenty of hosting experience. Larnaka also hosted the tournament in 2012 and welcomed the U21 World Championships in 2014 so it is great to be back here for the 14th edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball U19 World Championships.
Brazil dominated the tournament two years ago in Porto, Portugal winning both the men’s and women’s events and I am looking forward to seeing the talent on offer this year.
I hope the players enjoy the tournament and benefit from the experience as they move onwards and upwards in their beach volleyball careers.
