Larnaka to continue age-group tradition with U19 world champs

Larnaka, Cyprus, May 12, 2016 – Larnaka will maintain its proud record of hosting age-group FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships when it hosts the 2016 FIVB U19 World Championships.

The tournament will run from July 27-31 at Finikoudes Beach in Larnaka, on Cyprus’ southern coast. It is the second time that the U19 World Championships has been hosted at the venue after the Cypriot Volleyball organised the tournament in 2012.
Two years ago the Cypriot beach-side city hosted the U21 World Championships when Poland’s Michal Bryl and Kacper Kujawiak won the men’s title, while Canada’s Sophie Bukovec and Tia Miric claimed gold in the women’s competition.

“We are very proud to undertake the hosting of this event,” President of Cyprus Volleyball Federation Mr. Michalis Krashias said. “We are aware of what is required and will do what is necessary to make the tournament a success. We have the experience and knowledge or what is needed to make it a successful tournament.”

Up to 56 men’s and women’s teams will compete at the tournament and organisers expected 25,000 fans to enjoy the action over the course of the tournament. Centre court will hold 1,000 spectators with areas for fans to watch on the big screen outside the arena. Entrance is free.
